Seeing double on the court!

IN the end it came down to just the two of them ¿ like it has so many times before. Twins Keisha and Kayla Jeffrey from Guyana won through their matches at the Bank of Bermuda Junior CASA Squash Championships this week at the BSRA Devonshire courts to reach the final of the Girls Under 17 division. In the end it was number one seed Keisha who beat second seed Kayla 10-8, 10-8 and 9-4.

But there was no anger or fallout between the twins.

They have played many times in the past and will no doubt play many times in the future ¿ perhaps against each other in the US Ivy League college division as Keisha wants to go to Harvard while Kayla hopes to attend Yale.

Besides being top squash players these girls have big dreams and after talking to them you know they are very capable of attaining them.

"Usually we play a lot in finals," said Kayla while sister Keisha added that there was a girl in Guyana ¿ Ashley Khalil ¿ who is the top player in their country in their age group and who they often met in finals. But Khalil was not here for these championships and it came as no surprise that it was the Jeffrey twins who met each other in the final.

"We have played since we were six or seven," said Keisha while Kayla added, "squash is getting more and more popular in Guyana ¿ it is growing."

And since they are top players in their country they get to travel a fair bit. "We travel a lot (playing squash) ¿ after this tournament we will go to Canada for the North American Juniors and we also had a first and second in the Ontario Open," said Kayla.

They were born five minutes apart and it was a bit of a surprise for their parents as twins were not expected.

Right now they go to an American high school in Guyana but they are already planning on college in the United States.

They both said they want to use squash to help them get into a top university. "I want to go to Yale," said Kayla while her twin said, "I want to go to Harvard. We have high ambitions."

While their mother travels with them ¿ she used to be one of Guyana's top players ¿ their father is the twins' coach.

Of Bermuda Keisha said: "This is our first time here but it is very beautiful."

Her sister added: "But it is very hot ¿ I expected it to be cooler."
