?Shark attack? rewarded with 13-medal haul
While swimmers from the Harbour Club were impressing at the prestigious Dr. Ralph Hicken Invitational meet in Etobicoke, Canada, last weekend, a team from the Sharks Club were making waves of their own in nearby Waterloo.
A group of five Sharks swimmers emerged from the Waterloo May Long Course Invitational with 13 medals ? five of them snared by 12-year-old Rebecca Heyliger.
Heyliger bagged golds in the 50 metres freestyle, 100 metres backstroke and 200 metres backstroke as well as silver in the 50 metres backstroke and bronze in the 100 metres freestyle.
Thirteen year-old Rebecca Sharpe also grabbed three golds (50 metres backstroke, 100 metres backstroke and 200 metres backstroke) while Nick Thomson, 13, won three golds of his own (50 metres backstroke, 50 metres freestyle and 100 metres backstroke) as well as a bronze in the 100 freestyle.
Eleven-year-old Rachel Petty picked up a silver in the 50 metres freestyle, knocking more than a second off her personal best.
Morgan Hopkins, also 11, slashed 13 seconds off her personal best time in the 200 metres Individual Medley and went 12 seconds faster than ever before in her 100 metres freestyle.
As reported earlier this week, Ashley Yearwood made the biggest splash of nine Harbour Club swimmers competing in the Hicken Invitational when she grabbed a gold, silver and bronze in the 10 and under age group.
