Shaw?s late winner puts BAA top
BAA are on top of the Commercial A Division after a 85th-minute tap-in from Adam Shaw helped snatch a 2-1 victory over North Village.
BAA had taken the lead midway through the first period when Tommy Gribbon slotted home a Martin Jones cross.
BAA then squandered numerous chances to put game beyond Village while injury to keeper John Doran saw him replaced by BAA player-manager Paul Manders at half time. Village stepped up their game in second period and were rewarded with a penalty which was put away clinically by Tillman Darrell with 20 minutes left.
Village then nearly took the lead only to be denied with a fine save by stand-in keeper Manders. It was all BAA after that and the deadlock was broken in 85th minute when Gribbon?s cross found Shaw at back post.
Commercial league champs Key West were held to a draw by PHC in a 2-2 thriller at Southampton Oval.
Key West went up one-up in the opening minutes when Zane Stowe scored directly from a corner after a Roy Stevens dummy confused defenders and the ball snuck in at the near post. Raiders stormed back as Eddy Dowling rifled a shot from left hand side into upper right hand corner. After the break Sheridan (Baldy) Ming blasted past Andr? Hendrickson in controversial circumstances after the referee waved play on after the linesman had signalled a throw.
Misses by Raider players Andr? Caines and Keith Bell came back to haunt the Zebras when, in the 89th minute, Sergio Griffin converted after a mix-up at the back.
A disputed penalty and two red cards helped Robin Hood to their first win this season with a 2-1 victory over MR Onions at St. David?s. Onions took the lead after 15 minutes when a defensive error allowed John Lally to score from a Colin Keane pass. The rest of the half deteriorated into a series of free-kicks.
Hood equalised after an hour when a penalty was awarded, for a foul by Richard Phinn which Kenny Dill stuck away. Rael Coen was sent off for swearing at himself after misplacing a pass, shortly followed by Nick Briggs for a similar offence. Dill scored again with five minutes remaining.
Dandy Town Roots came from a goal down to dispense of a spirited Tuff Dogs team 3-1 at St. John?s. Tuff Dogs made Roots pay for their poor finishing when they took the lead from a corner. Two changes at the half seemed to inspire Roots as substitute Lorenzo Simmons turned his marker and sent a left-footed drive into the net. Roots took the lead when Don Lewis sent Lloyd Christopher through and the striker neatly lobbed the ball over the advancing keeper. Simmons completed the scoring when he outpaced the defence and drove an angled shot into the far corner.
In the B Division St. George?s All-Stars cruised to their fifth consecutive league victory comprehensively beating a youthful Pest Control team 6-0. All-Stars were missing a few regulars and were forced to call on veterans Milton Jones, Calvin Richardson, Kenny Pearman and Dwight Denbrook for their first outings of the season.
Through intelligent, slow build-up play, the Allstars propelled themselves to a comfortable 3-0 half-time lead with strikes from Milton Jones, Shay Pitcher and Franklyn Greaves. The second half saw All-Stars complete the rout scoring three more unanswered goals courtesy of Carlos Greaves, Harry Matthie and Andrew Richardson.
Somerset Extros beat Vasco 4-2 in spirited encounter in the west end. Extros started stronger and had a goal in the opening two minutes via Mark Grant. Vasco slowly got back into the game and went into the half 2-1 up after a mistake by the Extros? keeper allowed Paul Frias to walk the ball into the net.
A superbly taken free-kick by Bo Saggar made the score 2-1 to Vasco at the half. Somerset made a few timely changes to start the second half and began to dominate the midfield. Grant and Rodney Bascome weighed in with strikes while Mike Corday wrapped things up with a well-taken volley after a misjudged Vasco clearance.
In the C Division Wolves romped to a 4-1 victory over Prison Officers. Two long range strikes from Shannon Tuzo and one from Horace Landy had the home side leading at the break.
Prison Officers were more competitive in the second half, however Landy managed his second goal, with Dwight Richards getting a late consolation goal for Officers. MR Onions Real Men are still top after picking up a default win over Dandy Town Roots C who sent just three men to St. David?s.
