Shoulder injury sidelines Village veteran Jennings

North Village stalwart Kentoine Jennings could be out for several weeks with a shoulder injury, has learned.

The defender, who skippered Bermuda?s senior national team at last week?s Digicel Cup in the US Virgin Islands, injured his right shoulder when he landed awkwardly on it after challenging for an aerial ball during Tuesday?s Martonmere Cup match against PHC Zebras.

?I didn?t even know I had injured it at first. But I did go to the doctor afterwards and at the moment I can?t even use my right arm. I didn?t know I had popped it that badly until after the game,? said Jennings.

The veteran player will now be hoping to regain fitness before the national team head off to Barbados in just over a month?s time to compete in the second round of the Digicel Cup.

But that hinges upon how well he responds to therapy.

The player?s absence could also impact a Village team that have yet to win a match in two outings this season.

Jennings missed his team?s season-opening Charity Cup clash with Dandy Town, a match which saw the Reds defence horribly exposed.

Still, Jennings, in his usual composed manner, insisted his team-mates would eventually get their house in order and put a stop to the early season rot.

?We?ve lost two matches in a row before. All those results have done is encourage us to pick up our game. We can lose like anybody else . . . as long as we know what to do,? Jennings said.

?And I don?t think losing the Charity Cup and in the Martonmere Cup is anything to be concerned about. Personally I think the league is more important and that?s where we should be more concerned.

?I don?t think the team wanted to lose those two matches, but it is something we will have to accept because teams are coming against us to play and we are going to lose sometimes.

?But to be honest I?m more concerned about being injured rather than those two games. Yes, we want to win every game we play and also every trophy.

?But we?ve been in this position before, whereas we?ve started slow and picked up gradually as we?ve gone along. And I?m just glad those two losses were not losses that will have a detrimental effect on our season.

?We still have a lot of good players and others coming onboard. We haven?t had the best start, but I don?t think this is something we should start panicking about.?

Meanwhile, Village captain Ralph Bean jr and midfielder Tafari Outerbridge are also nursing injuries.

Both players were absent from Village?s 1-0 Martonmere Cup loss to PHC Zebras earlier this week.

Village are away to Lords this Sunday where they will come up against a St.David?s team anxious to add to the hard-earned point they stole off Somerset Trojans last weekend in their league season opener.

Premier Division action continues at Devonshire Recreation Club tonight when the Cougars entertain Somerset Trojans (kick-off 9 p.m.).

In the opening match at 7 p.m., Lady Cougars will take on Somerset
