Sims faces 'long drive' challenge
Pro golfer Michael Sims was back on the road last night, facing a marathon 1,500 mile drive from Missouri to Maine after failing to qualify for this week's Buy.Com Tour event.
Having missed the half-way cut by a single shot in the weekend's Fort Smith Classic in Arkansas, Sims travelled to Springfield, Missouri, for yesterday's qualifier for the next stop on the tour - the Price Cutter Charity Championships at the Highland Springs Country Club.
But his even par 71 came up short.
And the 23-year-old Bermudian will now play in the Bangor Open in Maine, starting on Thursday.
Speaking on his cell phone last night as he began the drive from Springfield, Sims said he hoped to arrive in Rhode Island today where he would work with his coach before driving onto Maine tomorrow.
"There's just a few little things I need to work on," he said.
"I entered the Bangor Open just in case I didn't make the tour event. It's just a state tournament but I want to keep on playing."
