Sims falls short at Panama Masters

Bermuda professional Michael Sims failed to make the cut in his latest venture on the Tour de las Americas when he stumbled to a disappointing five-over-par round of 77 at the Summit Panama Masters in Panama City yesterday.

Sims had begun the $100,000 event with an even-par 72 on Thursday and needed to improve on that yesterday to play the weekend.

Scotsman Greig Hutcheon was the half-way leader on nine-under-par 135 while regular Bermuda visitor Tim Conley was in contention after carding a second round of 70 for a five-under par total of 139.

The half-way cut was even par 144.

Sims couldn?t be contacted yesterday but said after Thursday?s round he was pleased with the way he was playing despite suffering a two-stroke penalty following a mistake by his caddie.

In an e-mail to , Sims said of his opening round: ?Overall I played well. I had five birdies, two bogeys and a triple. The triple occurred with a two-stroke penalty due to my caddie. It was unfortunate, but that?s the way it goes.?

Sims didn?t explain why the penalty was imposed.
