Michael Sims is in the money!

It may not have been much but the Bermudian golfer savoured his first pay day as a professional when he tied for 28th overall in the NGA/Hooters Tour event at Deer Brook Golf Club in Shelby, North Carolina, yesterday.

That effort saw the 23-year-old take home a cheque for $887.50 as he finished with a total of three-over-par 291.

"Yes, that is indeed his first golf pay cheque," confirmed his proud father, Bruce, last night, adding that his son had a bit of an Achilles heel problem but persevered after making the tournament cut.

Sims, who was competing in a field of 75 golfers, enjoyed his best round yesterday, shooting a two-under-par 70 to follow scores of 74, 71 and 76.

The University of Rhode Island student will be back in class for a week before heading to Arkansas for the Monday qualifier of the buy.com Arkansas Classic.

This tournament is being played from April 18-21 at Diamonte Country Club in Hot Springs Village.
