Six of the best in title fight
As this soccer season reaches a climax, six teams remain in the hunt for the Premier Division League title.
With just two matches remaining after this weekend, it's relatively safe to assume by now that the sprint to the finish, at both ends of the table will be a frantic one .... just ask Wolves!
Although Village's grip on the division is a tenuous one, their quest for the title shouldn't get any easier as Somerset Trojans, Wolves and Dandy Town all obscure their path towards a first crown since the 1978/79 season.
Bearing all that in mind, Scott Morton's team should also take into consideration the sobering fact that you must never measure a team by the heights they have reached, but by the depths from which they have come.
Enter Somerset Trojans from out of the blue, now challenging for league honours, who will be entering Bernard Park tomorrow to find out if Village's title charge does indeed hold substance.
Mark Trott's balanced team have put a lacklustre first half of the season behind them and as Cougars found out two weeks ago, you can never leave the door slightly ajar when the Trojans are lurking.
In another match with title implications, Dandy Town travel west to Somerset Cricket Club to take on third placed PHC Zebras who will be without the services of Otis Steede and Stephen Astwood through suspension, while Town themselves will be missing Janeiro Tucker and strike ace Seyoum Tuzo for the same reasons.
In a battle of the league's bottom dwellers, Wolves will be returning to Wellington Oval to look for something that they seem to have left there back in January ... their winning ways!
But while the visitors have been but a shadow of themselves lately, St. George's are coming off of two competitive matches against Dandy Town showing that they still have a bit of bite left within them.
Wolves will be without the services of Mark Ray who is abroad for medical purposes, however, sparkplug Nakia Smith is now eligible to play having served out his one match suspension.
Devonshire Cougars and Devonshire Colts played their match last night at the Den.
Meanwhile, in First Division action, Somerset Eagles will want to avoid dropping additional points at this stage of the season and should have their hands full of
third placed Hamilton Parish at White Hill Field (1 p.m.) who likewise, can erupt at a moments notice.
Fourth placed St. David's will travel to Southampton Oval (1 p.m.) to take on a Rangers ship that may still be without a rudder as former coach Ronue Cann appears to have flown the coop.
Prospect host Ireland Rangers at Police Field (3 p.m.), while Young Mens Social Club and Paget will do battle at Bernard Park (1 p.m.). Leaders, Boulevard have a bye.
All Premier Division games kick-off at 3 p.m.
