Carlos Smith came up with the goal that finally killed off Boulevard during last night's FA Cup first-round replay at BAA Field, knocking Town's spirited opponents out of the competition with a sizzling strike on 75 minutes.

The teams had battled to a 1-1 draw after extra time on Sunday but Smith ensured there would be no repeat last night.

By far the busiest player on the pitch in a game that was as exhilarating in the second half as it had been uneventful in the first, Smith latched onto a cross by Reggie Tucker to finish sharply from close range.

Boulevard, looking for somebody to deliver similar heroics like the injured Moroccan winger El Karfa Farid had done on Sunday, went close to an equaliser as the clock wound down, Dandy Town hearts missing a beat when Melchesedic Gibbons' overhead kick from eight yards grazed the hands of goalkeeper Antoine Lightbourne and struck the bar before being cleared.

In the end though Town proved to be deserved winners.

They had held a 1-0 lead at the interval thanks to a goal by Janeiro Tucker, the striker smartly rising above the defence to head home a Gregg Foggo corner after 16 minutes.

Boulevard, meanwhile, had only isolated attacks and resorted to long-range shots that offered no real problems for goalkeeper Lightbourne.

Town remained sound in defence with centre-backs Randy Swan and Maurice Lowe giving little away.

The tempo of play intensified after the break with Town looking capable of adding to their lead as Carlos Smith created two openings, but he sadly put a shot into the side-netting and then fired a second inches over when he should have done better.

With Tekeyhi Walker introduced for Boulevard they began to play with more purpose and raised their pace and rhythm.

A handball by midfielder Pernell Douglas gave them the chance to draw level from the spot after 67 minutes, but Gibbons' poorly directed shot was saved by the very competent Lightbourne.

Boulevard continued to press, however, and skipper Shaki Crockwell placed an overhead kick just wide of the far post from an angle on the right.

The equaliser was not long in coming, Gibbons making amends for his blunder by scoring from a scramble following a corner in the 71st minute.

However, Smith then stunned them with Town's second goal which ultimately secured his side a place in the next round.
