Skipper Steede's hungry for runs
Western Stars 367-7, Flatts 144-8
Skipper Albert Steede feasted off local bowling once again on Sunday when he hit a sparkling 138 to lead Western Stars to a 223-run victory over nine-man Flatts.
The Premier Division Knockout game at St. John's Field was reduced to 48 overs.
Steede's aggressive, stroke-filled innings included three sixes and 12 fours, the skipper coming to the wicket after opener Treadwell Gibbons Jr. (11) was dismissed with the total on 44. The skipper got valuable support at the other end from Corey Berkeley (41), Arnold Manders (37) and Saleem Mukuddem (33) with the largest partnership of 82 coming during a third-wicket stand between Steede and and Berkeley.
Steede was eventually bowled by Philip Burgess, but by then his team had already amassed a formidable 297.
Burgess was the top bowler for Flatts with three wickets for 54 off nine overs while Derek Wright took two for 46 off nine overs with a maiden.
Flatts offered the best resistance they could after entering the game with the odds stacked against them primarily because of the shortage of players. Quinn Outerbridge and Vernon Eve joined in a spirited opening stand of 50 with Eve scoring 29 and Outerbridge 23, but once they were separated wickets fell at a regular rate. The others contributing to the score were Troy Bean with 31 and Philip Burgess 23.
Flatts were dismissed in 33.5 overs.
Dwayne Leverock led the Stars bowlers with three for 18 off seven overs with two maidens, Mukuddem had two for 20 off seven overs and Jermaine Postlethwaite two for 24 off 6.5 overs.
Cleveland 148-9, Somerset CC 146
Courtney Trott grabbed four wickets for 34 off seven overs to lead visiting Cleveland to a two-run victory at Somerset in a game that was delayed after the umpires insisted that the grass be cut.
The delay forced the game to be reduced to 35 overs.
In their chase after a modest winning target of 149, Somerset struggled from the start after losing their first three wickets for seven and their fourth for 39.
Top bat Wendell White (66) and Shawn Roberts (24) added stability with a fifth wicket stand of 83, but once that ended the home team got little help from their lower order batting.
Earlier, Chris Richardson led Cleveland's scorers with 24 while Aaron Adams and Craig Darrell struck 23. Shannon Warner took four for 32 off six overs while Jacobi Robinson claimed two for 27 off seven overs.
