Smith doubtful for Revs? tour
Khano Smith is highly unlikely to play any role during New England Revolution?s tour of Bermuda this month, club sources revealed yesterday.
Smith, 25, has yet to fully recover from minor knee surgery last month and is doubtful to play in the Rev?s friendly against Bermuda on February 18, a February 22 CONCACAF Champions Cup quarter-final first leg clash against Costa Rica?s LD Alajuelense and a February 25 meeting with Jamaica?s Under-23 national team.
All matches are slated for the National Sports Centre (NSC).
New England will then travel to Costa Rica for the second leg of their CONCACAF clash against Alajuelense on March 8.
Smith is still recovering after having surgery to remove bruised blood and tissue from his left knee that he injured five minutes after netting for the Revs during their Eastern Conference semi-final 3-1 win over Metro Stars last fall.
The Revs were beaten 1-0 in the MLS final by LA Galaxy in Dallas.
?Khano is rehabbing actively and is still several weeks away from returning to action,? a club source told . ?He is currently rehabbing with the squad in Foxborough.?
Time is not on Smith?s side as the Revs are due to arrive in Bermuda on February 13.
?Smith will definitely be at the game and on the trip to Bermuda. And it?s not likely but possible that he?ll be available to play on February 22. But he will be with the team in Bermuda,? the source added.
Prior to heading off to Boston last month, Smith was optimistic of not only suiting up for the Revs, but also wearing a Bermuda jersey for the first time since the 2007 World Cup qualifying campaign two years? ago.
?It?s only a scope incision and so I?m hoping to play. I shouldn?t be out that long. Now I?m just waiting for the swelling to go down so that I can start rebuilding the strength,? Smith told last month.
