Last Saturday saw thousands flock to the National Sports Centre to witness the Kappa Alpha PSI Fraternity Pee Wee Soccer Extravaganza featuring the Island's budding footballers.

When all was said and done, and fun had by all, Dandy Town and North Village walked away with top honours among their respective divisions - along with bragging rights for the next year.

Hornets won the Under Seven title, edging past Devonshire Cougars 1-0 in the final, while Village dug deep to come from behind and outscore PHC Blacks 3-2 in the Under Nine final.

The youth football spectacle comprised of teams in the Under Seven and Under Nine age groups. The Under Seven Division featured 12 teams divided into three groups of four. Each team played three group matches with the top two teams advancing to the quarter-finals along with the overall second best team after completion of the round robin phase.

The Under Nine Division consisted of 16 teams among four groups of four with the top two teams from each group advancing to the quarter-finals.

Town defeated St.George's 3-2 in a penalty shootout while Cougars handed Village a 3-1 loss in the semi-finals.

In the Under Nine age group semi-finals, PHC Black edged by Dandy Town 1-0 while Village blanked Somerset 5-0.

Organiser Anthony Hunter said: “We had about 3,000 people attend the event. There were no problems and it was a lovely event for the kids. It was their stage, they had a great time and the final was played under the lights which made the occasion even better.”

Overall, 420 representatives from Dandy Town, Devonshire Cougars, Boulevard, PHC, Hamilton Parish, Southampton Rangers, Somerset, St.George's, Wolves, Devonshire Colts and North Village participated in the annual youth event.

All Star Awards were presented for individual excellence on the pitch. Those receiving awards in the Under Seven age bracket were: Anthony Bailey Jr, Rayjuan Raynor, Jazz Rattery, Zhacobi Thomas, Daniel Cole, Osagi Bascome, Jahkeem Hunt while Eli Smith, Quintoinio Lema, Shakhai Trott, Deondre Trott, Jahquan Smith-DeShields and Che Brangman were proud award recipients among the Under Nine division.

Hunter added: “Additional thanks goes out to the many referees that came out and officiated tirelessly as well as the many volunteers that assisted in making this event a resounding success.

“Thanks also to the many family members that supported the players and made the event a wonderful fun-filled family day.”
