Dear Sir,

I have read your various stories over the past month and a half about the plight of the athletes who were chosen for the Commonwealth Games, only to be made aware of possible exclusion because of the Commonwealth Games Federation 2003 eligibility ruling.

I am not going to comment on the reasons why the events unfolded in the way that they did, and I am very reluctant to speculate on what actually transpired with respect to the sequence of events.

I am writing to you to simply point out an inaccuracy that has been repeated in every one of your reports.

My daughter, Kaisey Griffith, has been categorised by yourselves as foreign born. She was, in fact, born in Bermuda in 1992 and has spent her entire life here.

We are pleased that the CGF heard the appeal on her behalf and ruled in her favour.

I would also like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank Mr Philip Guishard who went out of his way to provide whatever information that he could in the trying circumstances as well as Scott King, president of the Bermuda Gymnastics Association, who maintained contact with the BOA throughout the episode.

This entire issue is extremely unfortunate for all those athletes who have been affected, especially those whose appeals were rejected.

I am happy for Kaisey but every effort must be made by the BOA to ensure that this situation is never repeated.

BILLY GRIFFITH
