Dear Sir,

What a weekend to be Bermudian, especially when many outside their clubs and fan base are convinced that Shaun Goater and Kyle Lightbourne are not up to the grade in their respective divisions.

Both played in televised matches over the weekend - Goater's Manchester City actually completed the latest round of Premiership fixtures on Monday - and both scored!

I know that there is incessant debate on the Island whenever anyone deigns to mention a "first", but there is no dispute this time around - two Bermudians scoring in televised matches on the same weekend!

Lightbourne, who was welcomed with "Kyle Lightbourne, you're rubbish" chants during the early stages of Macclesfield Town's FA Cup match at home to Vauxhall Motors, of the UniBond League Premier Division, scored the first goal in a 2-0 victory and warranted man-of-the-match accolades from the Press Association.

Goater, who was said to be "lacking class" by George Graham, the former Arsenal, Leeds United and Tottenham Hotspur manager, acting as guest analyst for Premiership Plus TV, turned in a class performance and scored the goal of the match against a woeful Sunderland team on Monday.

Kevin Keegan, his manager, later praised the Bermudian. "Shaun Goater had a terrific game up front. He did all the simple things really well," he told a news conference.

Not bad for a couple of cart horses on a hiding to nothing.

Proud to be Bermudian.

P.S. In typical analysts' fashion, Graham's take on Goater changed significantly in the post-match review.
