St. David's smash Bailey's Bay
Bailey's Bay 107 St.David's 240
St. David's hammered Eastern Counties rivals Bailey's Bay by 133 runs at Sea Breeze Oval on Sunday to maintain their unbeaten win streak in limited overs league play.
Sent in to bat on a slightly moist strip, the Islanders posted a formidable 240 runs with lower order batsman Shannon Raynor leading the way with a whirlwind unbeaten knock of 59. Raynor launched a brutal assault on the Bay attack, belting six sixes and three fours en route to a robust half-century off only 33 balls.
Christmas also came early for St.David's as a generous Bay gifted a costly 55 runs to their hosts' total.
Jermaine Warner, better renowned for his batting prowess, was the pick of the Bay bowling. Warner claimed three wickets for 14 runs off only 2.5 overs. Veteran seamer Clarkie Trott took two for 49 while Dennis Pilgrim, skipper Jermaine Outerbridge and Irving Romaine grabbed one apiece as the Islanders were finally skittled out in 44.5 overs.
In reply to St. David's mammoth total, Bay's innings never got off the ground as the home team found the going tough against the visitor's attack, losing their first five-wickets with only 46 runs on the board with Arthur Pitcher Jr. and Mackie Crane accounting for the first four wickets to fall.
It was then left for OJ Pitcher to remove Bay's middle order before Sammy Robinson and Kameron Fox polished off the home team's tail.
Bay's last two wickets fell in the space of 18 runs as St.David's applied the finishing touches to a fine all-round performance, dismissing their hosts in only 29.2 overs.
Western Stars 241 all out Southampton Rangers 152 all out
A match-winning allround performance from Western Stars' Dennis Archer at the Southampton Oval on Sunday put paid to the home side's attempts to breath life into what has been a disastrous season so far.
The Bajan, who moved to Stars from Police at the start of the season, followed up an important 46 in the city team's first innings total of 241 all out, with bowling figures of 6 for 24 - obliterating the hapless Rangers middle order with unrelenting accuracy and late movement off the pitch.
If the Stars batsman needed to be reminded of the virtue of playing very straight on painfully slow wickets, they did not have to wait long. Attempting to turn to leg a loopy half-tracker from Rangers' George Crofton off the first ball of the match, Cup Match opener Jermaine Postlethwaite succeeded only in ballooning the ball off his leading edge straight into the hands of short-midwicket.
Despite the early mishap, Stars pushed on positively thanks to a typically powerful innings from Albert Steede (69) and other useful contributions from Treadwell Gibbons (27), Archer (46) and the skipper Hasan Durham (46).
Janeiro Tucker was the most successful bowler for Rangers, taking four for 29 off his ten.
In reply, Rangers were pinned back from the start by the insatiable Archer and only Keith Wainwright (38) and Olin Jones (55) succeded in putting up any meaningful resistance.
Rangers have yet to win a game in this season's limited over league having played three games.
Stars on the other hand are riding high after three straight wins, but will need to remain on top of their game to repel the upcoming challenges of St.George's and St.David's.
Willow Cuts 167 St. George's 168-9.
A last wicket stand of 31 between skipper Greg Foggo and Eugene Foggo allowed visitors St. George's to grab this one-wicket triumph over Willow Cuts at Somerset.
With defeat staring them in the face, the number ten and 11 batsmen refused to yield and their intelligent approach saw them eventually climb on top of the bowlers and reach their winning target, the skipper not out on 19 and his partner undefeated on ten.
Allan Douglas (III) was the batting hero for the East Enders striking 55, including eight fours and two sixes off 37 balls while batting for 62 minutes. Also among the runs were Dupul Dhammika with 23 and Ryan Steede 20.
Terry Corday was the best bowler for Cuts taking four wickets for 49 runs off ten overs with two maidens while Charles Swan and Sidney Simmons took two wickets apiece, Swan's off nine overs costing 41 runs while Simmons conceded 40 runs off 6.1 overs.
Earlier Ryan Sheppard struck 39 to top Cuts' batting, Reggie Tucker and skipper Richard Basden chipped in with 21 apiece while Mike Corday hit 17.
Travis Smith was the pick of the St. George's bowlers taking three for 26 off ten overs while Herbie Bascome had two for 26 off ten overs with three maidens.
Devonshire Rec. 150 Cleveland 151-6.
Veteran player-coach Ricky Brangman struck 56 and Wendell Swan hit 33 but despite these fine performances Devonshire Rec. were beaten by four wickets at Wellington Oval. No other details were available.
