Starr Trail on the market after ocean race success
Fresh from success in the Marion to Bermuda Race, Robert Mulderig has placed his trophy-winning sloop on the market.
Starr Trail and Island skipper Mulderig narrowly missed the record for the event when they crossed the line after 73 and a half hours on Monday afternoon.
Now the 72-foot vessel is to be put up for sale, thus ending its association with the family.
“The yacht is for sale, I'm not sure how terribly seriously, but it is for sale,” said Mulderig yesterday.
“We have had it for about eight years and have been around the world, which was a major event for the family, but everybody is going in different directions and it just doesn't fit quite into our plans going forward as much as it has.”
Mulderig, who was keeping mum on the asking price, said Starr Trail had served him well over the years.
“It has been, and is, a terrific boat,” he said.
The skipper is not about to hang up his oilskins though.
“Together with Kirk Cooper I have a J-125 down here that we race so I will definitely continue to race,” he said.
Meanwhile, a procession of boats finished in Mulderig's wake yesterday and tied up at the Royal Hamilton Amateur Dinghy Club.
At last check the victor was the only Islander to have crossed the line but those that have succeeded in their task are Vivaldi, Makin Progress, Avalon, Slide Rule, Flirt, Venture, Heron, Blue Moon, Kathleen, Firefly, Fury, Moondance, Rose, Syzygy, Southern Cross, Wild Mouse and Lady B.
