Stars told to shape up

Government have given the operators of St. John's Field, home of Dandy Town football team and Western Stars cricket team, an extension on their deadline of April 30 to get their facilities in proper order.

The club were given an ultimatum in January - make the necessary improvements or risk losing the lease.

Government, as owners of the property, have the right to terminate any agreement with their tenant by closing down the facilities or offering it to another tenant.

While confirming the latest developments, Western Stars' president Calvin Blankendal was reluctant to discuss the details of the extension, but he said he was optimistic that everything would be worked out to the satisfaction of Government.

"The deadline has been temporarily extended and we are still working on getting everything in order. I am confident that everything will be worked out in the near future to resolve the situation," said the president.

Blankendal and his new committee had only just taken office when the directive came from the Ministry of Works and Engineering.

The main concerns were the condition of the facilities, including the toilets and other structural areas.
