Streaker beaten in penalty shoot-out
Bermuda goalkeeper Dwayne (Streaker) Adams was in the thick of the action at the weekend when his Charlotte Eagles came face to face with John Barry Nusum's Atlanta Silverbacks.
The A League double-header on Friday and Saturday acted as a qualifier for the Lamar Hunt Open Cup.
Both games ended in 1-1 draws but it was the Silverbacks, minus Nusum who has a strained hamstring, who progressed after they emerged victorious in a penalty shoot-out.
Adams found himself picking the ball out of the net after 12 minutes of the first match when a shot from Atlanta's Martin Klinger took a crazy deflection, leaving the ‘keeper helpless.
Lee Paul equalised in the second-half and the Eagles then had a man sent off.
With the game tied at 1-1 there followed two periods of extra-time but with no further scoring the match ended even.
In the second match, Jacob Coggins put Charlotte ahead but with victory in sight Atlanta's Carlos Parra struck from 18 yards with Adams out of position.
Again no further goals were scored in extra-time so it came down to spot kicks, with Atlanta winning 5-4.
Elsewhere, Bermuda's Khano Smith notched another goal for the Carolina Dynamo in their 4-1 triumph over the Reading Rage on Friday night.
That strike made up for the disappointment Smith suffered in the 1-0 win over the New York Freedom earlier.
After being yellow-carded for deliberate handball in the 73rd minute, Smith received a red just a minute late for a foul.
