Swimmers grab medals
Bermuda's swimmers came back laden with medals after the competing in the annual Region of Waterloo Invitational held at Wilfred Laurier University in Canada.
A group of 33 swimmers, aged between ten and 21, represented the Island at the meet which pitted them against rivals from all over Ontario.
In the nine and ten year old division, Rebecca Sharpe secured five medals - a silver in 50m backstroke, bronze in 50m and 100m freestyle, 100m backstroke and 50m butterfly.
Also in that division, Nicholas Thompson earned three medals, gold in the 100m freestyle, and silver in the 50m freestyle and 50m back.
Dorian Armstrong was second in the 100m breaststroke and third in the third in the 50m butterfly.
In the 11 and 12 year olds, Martin Wolfe had two golds, one in 50m butterfly and the other in the 100m breaststroke.
Matthew Tavares snatched a silver in the 50m butterfly and Nathan Frick took silver in the 50m backstroke and a bronze in the 50m butterfly.
Among the 13 and 14 year olds, Flora Duffy had four medals, a gold in the 50m freestyle, silver in the 100m freestyle, bronze in the 200m freestyle and the 50m butterfly.
Austin Kenny had five medals - gold in the 50m freestyle, silver in the 50m and 200m backstroke and 50m butterfly and a bronze in the 100m backstroke.
In the 15 plus age group, which does not award medals, there were at least ten top three positions, mostly recorded by Ronald Cowen.
"He was the top high performance male of the meet," said national coach Richard Godwin. "In second in the same category was Roy-Allan Burch and in third for the women was Kiera Aitken."
