Tavares lifts Seniors title

Former winner Michael (Tracy) Tavares hung on to clinch another Bermuda Seniors Amateur Championship crown at Riddell?s Bay yesterday with a third and final round of seven-over-par 77.

Tavares had entered the day just one shot clear of Geoff Carter following rounds of 73 and 74.

And in a tense finish yesterday, Tavares maintained that slim lead as both players fired 77 leaving Tavares on 224 and Carter on 225.

Clyde (Tango) Burgess placed third with rounds of 75-75-78 for a 228 total, one ahead of Eldon Raynor (73-76-80) and Quinton Sherlock (72-79-78).

In the 36-hole ladies? championship, Susie Elton completed a runaway victory, following her first-day round of 81 with an 82 for a 163 total. That was nine shots clear of second-placed Wendy Salvia (84-88).

Third place went to Susan Vallis on 174 (84-90).
