THE BIKES ARE BACK

Up to 30 riders will compete for the Cycle Care & Polini trophies this weekend ? nearly ten months after the original race was postponed due to a row with Government.

The Bermuda Motorcycle Racing Club (BMRC) were thrown off the Morgan's Point track last July due to a wrangle over insurance and are delighted to be able to stage the event this weekend at the new Motorsport Park in Southside.

"I'm delighted to be where we are," said president David Jones ahead of the first event of a season that runs every other Sunday until the end of October.

"Last year was frustrating for all the well-documented reasons but this year we have a new track and a clean slate and are looking forward to getting back into action.

"It has been a long hard slog but after eight years of battling with Government, we have finally got the track we want.

"There are still a few minor issues to iron out, but the important thing is that we are back racing again. This race was delayed at the last-minute in July because of a ridiculous row but we promised our sponsors we would eventually get the event on."

At least 30 riders are expected to compete this Sunday in Mini-bike, Formula, Scooter, 125GP and drag racing classes in the event which begins at 1 p.m. with doors opening two hours earlier.

The BMRC are holding an urgent meeting tomorrow at 7 p.m. at the Bermuda Industrial Union building ahead of this weekend's racing.
