Thunder to take Bermuda Select
Bermuda Football Association have confirmed that Canadian soccer team the Hamilton Thunder will be taking on the Island's best players in two matches this weekend.
The Royal Gazette revealed last week that the Ontario-based side were due to visit the Island after five North Village players underwent trials with the club earlier this year.
Two players, Keith Jennings and Jameiko Jennings, have been singled out for a closer look and a decision on whether to take the pair on is expected to made when the visit concludes.
Two matches against Bermuda select teams will be played at the National Sports Centre in Prospect on Friday and Sunday. Both will kick off at 7 p.m. and admission to the games is $15 for grandstand seats, $10 for the Frog Lane seats and $5 for children under 12-years-old.
The Thunder are a leading club in the Canadian Professional Soccer League and have been approved to participate in the USSF A League from 2005.
"They will travel to Bermuda with a roster of international players most notably from Brazil, UK and Latin America," said BFA general secretary David Sabir. "They will combine (this) with their home grown talent to provide two very exciting matches in Bermuda.
"Apart from playing these two matches in preparation for their upcoming season, the Hamilton Thunder will also play a practice match on Thursday which will give our visiting coaches another opportunity to get their team ready for the two matches against Bermuda's National Select Team.
"The Hamilton Thunder also see this tour as an important step in establishing a working relationship with the Bermuda FA.
"It is with mutual aspirations that we will use this initial event to build a developmental partnership whereby we can exchange football activities for the benefit of our players, coaches and referees."
