Title in sight as Rangers overpower Islanders
St.George?s 138
Flatts 140 for six
Flatts made light work of St.George?s at Wellington Oval en route to a second limited overs win of the season.
Paving the way for Flatts? shock win was skipper Phillip Burgess who grabbed two wickets and stroked an unbeaten 65 while Vernon Eve seized four for 20 off only 6.5 overs and Kijuan Franks an equally superb three for 17 off six overs.
Batting first, St.George?s? batsmen never settled into any sort of rhythm and often their demise resulted from poor shot selection at the crease.
Only four St.George?s bats managed to reach double figures, Troy Hall top scoring with 30 (three fours and two sixes) off 31 balls, Oronde Bascome adding ten, Herbie Bascome 20 and tailender Jade Foggo 19.
Flatts player-coach Gary Brangman held his end of the bargain by claiming one for 26 off ten overs, including four maidens before St.George?s were finally dismissed in 33.5 overs.
Despite losing wickets at regular intervals, the visiting team managed to romp to victory in 30.2 overs on the crest of Burgess? heroics with the bat. The veteran all-rounder?s half century came off 64 balls in 76 minutes and contained five fours and four sixes.
Brangman also capped off a fine all-round performance by contributing a valuable 22 runs off 35 balls while Rahji Edness added 18 and Eve 12.
Wilbur Burt was the pick of the St.George?s bowling, claiming three for 39 while Bascome, Travis Smith and Eugene (Calabash) Foggo took one apiece.
Flatts secured victory at 4.24 p.m. with 114 balls to spare.
