Titleholders Onions in familiar territory
Reigning Commercial A champions MR Onions are again sitting on top of the table after five weeks of action.
The pub side overcame Valley 4-0 on Saturday via two Nick Briggs goals and contributions from defenders John Betts and Keith Donald.
Key West, who signed a host of players from higher leagues over the summer, kept up the pressure with a 6-1 thumping of Tuff Dogs which keeps them in second place.
On target for Key West were Burton Cox, Janeiro Tucker, Webster Mills, Mitchell Raynor, Brenton Harris and Sergio Griffin while Ryan Gaglio got the consolation goal for Dogs.
Dandy Town Roots A, who stormed the B Division last year, are finding life tougher in the top flight. They have just one point after four games, losing 5-2 on Saturday to BAA who are now third.
BAA?s David Gibbs and Gus Coco netted two apiece while Stan Fisher also hit the target.
Former BAA and Dandy Town cup hero Dave Lawler scored for Roots along with Paul Cann.
Former champions Robin Hood drew 1-1 with PHC in a morning encounter at Southampton Oval with the pub side thankful for an own goal.
Sixth-placed Lobster Pot had little difficulty overcoming North Village 2-0. Pot went ahead after 30 minutes when Dave Allison poked the ball into the bottom left corner during a goalmouth scramble. The second came after 65 minutes when Martin Godley weaved past several Village players and calmly slotted into the right hand corner.
In the B Division, Hamilton Parish picked up three points with a 3-1 victory over Somerset Bridge Peskies.
Parish?s star striker Irving Burgess and Corey Hill netted one apiece while Bridge?s Ruffins Hill put through his own goal. Deon Minors got the lone goal for Bridge.
Devonshire Lions walloped Pest Control 6-1 thanks to a Shawn Showers brace and one each from Philip Clarke, Dennis Williams, Shivaughan Smith and Chris Pitcher.
Meanwhile, Devonshire All-Stars and Prospect/Fire drew 1-1 and Island XI beat Boulevard 4-2 with Xavier James scoring two and Nathan Acheson and Paul Mello one each for the new side. Details of Boulevard?s scorers were not available.
In C Division action a reborn Somerset Extros, who endured a dismal season last time around, are top of the table with a game in hand on second-placed local rivals Dockyard Falcons who they hammered 6-0 at Malabar.
On target were Donnie Simmons and Michael Bremar with two apiece and Tracey Adams and Anthony Burchall.
Third-placed MR Onions Real Men overcame bottom-of-the table Prison Officers via two Steve Nowell goals and single strikes from Mike Baker and Colin Couper. However, the pub side were left frustrated that they could not add to their tally.
A rampant Dandy Town Roots C overcame Warwick Workmen?s Club 7-1.
