Christmas may have come early at Inwood Stables.

Top pony Pocket Change continued to extend his astonishing unbeaten harness racing streak at Vesey Street over the weekend.

And not to be totally outshone, stablemates Kicka Poo Brave and GV Colonel Spence are also carving out a niche in their respective divisions.

But it's Nick DeCosta's summer acquisition and record-smashing two-year-old Pocket Change who remains the centre of attention these days.

DeCosta guided his rookie sensation to two more wins on the weekend to extend one of the Island's hottest unbeaten win streaks to 18.

DeCosta tied the track record (1.05) earlier this season while in the sulky of GV Colonel Spence, the third element of a formidable trio heralding out of the Crawl Hill stables.

"He is showing more and more potential and he's still surprising me," said Pocket Change's owner/driver DeCosta yesterday.

"He now has one leg out of the 1.12.3-1.14.3 time bar."

For added measure, DeCosta also recorded his fastest time to date (1.10.1) on his new pony during his first heat of the night, starting from the outside position.

Pocket Change now just needs to get one more leg out of the time bar to continue his steady ascent.

DeCosta also drove Kicka Poo Brave to victory in the 1.08-1.10 C Division time bar to make it three wins on the night.

Overall, DeCosta said he was more than satisfied with the weekend's pickings.

"I had a couple of races that didn't go so well, but I guess you have to take the good along with the bad ones," he surmised.

"Overall I thought that it was a good weekend. The ponies are all doing well and the races are very exciting and it's making Boxing Day look very interesting," added DeCosta who already has his sights firmly set the lucrative holiday Stakes Races.

"He's just making things a lot more promising for us. I think that there's a little suspense around the track these days because everyone now wants to see how long the streak will last. But I also think that there's a lot of support there as well."

However, Pocket Change was not the only entry to emerge as a double winner as Trott Acre Abby Lass, driven by Keith Woodley, marked a triumphant return to the track after a three-year hiatus to take line honours in both race one and race seven among the 1.14 and slower time bar.

Joseph Vieira also guided Diamondway to two wins in the 1.08-1.10 B Division time bar, while Jeff Sousa, in the sulky of Crunchtime, was the night's remaining double winner in the 1.12.3-1.15.3 time bar. Vieira was also the night's biggest winner with four victories overall.

Randy Wells guided The Konica Bullet to victory (1.08.3) in the night's first heat of the Free For All while Eddie Roque - fortunate to have escaped serious injury during a road accident last week near Paget traffic lights - ran the night' s fastest time with Tuxedo's Bowtie to clinch the second Free For All in 1.06.3.

Harness action continues this Friday night at Vesey Street.
