Top teams battle for spot in semi-finals
The final three Martonmere Cup semi-final spots will be decided tonight at Devonshire Recreation Club.
So far PHC Zebras are the only team to have qualified for next week?s semi finals, leaving the fate of cup holders Dandy Town, North Village, Devonshire Cougars, Somerset Trojans and Boulevard up in the air.
Village and Cougars have already completed their respective group matches, but must now rely on results from tonight?s double-header to determine whether they are eliminated or march on.
Town need only to take a point off Zebras in tonight?s Group A curtain raiser to advance to the semis while an outright win would see them clinch the group.
A Zebras win, however, would send idle Village through to the semis of the competition for the fourth straight year.
The second match of tonight?s double header has Group B leaders Somerset Trojans pitted against Boulevard.
A draw would be enough to send both Trojans and idle Cougars through to the next round, while for Boulevard to advance they would have to defeat Trojans by at least three clear goals in order to pip Cougars and at least five to clinch the group outright.
The eventual winners of each group will play the runners-up from the other group during the October 23 and 25 semi finals scheduled for Devonshire Recreation Club and Somerset Cricket Club.
