Tough draw for FA Cup giant killers
Somerset Eagles, still basking in the glory of seeing off local rivals Somerset Trojans on Sunday, have been handed another `giant killing' task in the next round of the FA Cup.
The Eagles will take on high-flying Wolves on January 20 at White Hill Field following the draw made yesterday.
First Division Eagles found themselves 3-1 down midway through the second-half of the match against their Premier Division rivals at the weekend but staged a remarkable comeback, eventually triumphing 4-3 with a last minute goal.
But to beat Dennis Brown's side they will have to be at their very best and they know they cannot afford to give them a two goal start.
"In the first half we had a couple of opportunities that we should have put away and that usually comes back to haunt you, but thanks to God and to the effort these guys put in we showed we can be victorious in any game we find ourselves," said coach Albert Dowling after the game.
"For the Eagles it is one of the best victories ever because of the rivalry we have within Somerset. It is always a battle between Somerset Eagles and the Trojans. Whenever they meet, irrespective of what calibre of soccer they are playing, it raises the standard (of the game)."
In an all-Premier Division clash, North Village, who saw off Prospect 3-0, take on Devonshire Colts, 1-0 winners over Commercial Division Robin Hood, at Bernard Park.
St. David's' reward for beating Tuff Dogs is a home tie against St. George's, while Dandy Town, 5-0 victors over Ireland Rangers, take on Boulevard, 4-0 vanquishers of Prospect/Fire, at St.John's. All the matches are on January 20 and all have 2.30 p.m. kick-offs.
In the women's competition, Prospect drew Hemisphere Royals at Bernard Park, Rude Girls take on Wolves Girls at White Hill and Dandy Stars play PHC at St.John's. Robin Hood have a bye. All games begin at 12.30 p.m.
