Tough opener for Fed Cup girls
Bermuda's Fed Cup team crashed to heavy defeats in their opening matches in Puerto Rico yesterday.
The youngsters lost all three Americas Qualifying Group II matches to the more fancied Jamaicans in San Juan.
In the singles, Ashley Brooks went down 6-1, 6-2 to Megan Moulton-Levy and Zarah DeSilva 6-1, 6-2 to Alanna Broderick.
Kara Fisher then joined up with sister Sasha for the doubles, losing out 6-1, 6-2 against Broderick and Kadija Richards.
Bermuda's team is believed to be the youngest-ever Island side to have played in the annual team competition.
Youngest member of the squad is 15-year-old Brooks who along with 16-year-old Kara Fisher is making her Fed Cup debut. DeSilva (19) is the number one singles player.
Non-playing captain is Kelly Holland.
Bermuda face Chile today.
Also in Pool B are Jamaica, Bolivia and Trinidad and Tobago. Pool A consists of Venezuela, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Ecuador and Costa Rica.
The top team from each group is promoted Americas Qualifying Group I.
