Tournament time for Island's top youngsters
Several of the Island's most promising young cricketers will fly out on Thursday to compete in two separate tournaments overseas.
While the Bermuda Under-15 national team head to Orlando, Florida to play in the Americas Under-15 regional competition, Somerset's Jacobi Robinson, Western Stars' Jekon Edness and St.George's' opening bat Detroy Smith will all travel to Jamaica where they will form part of an Americas Regional Select competing in the West Indies Under-19 Tournament.
The trio will also be involved in a five-day pre-tournament camp as well as a 50-overs knockout competition immediately following the competition on August 21.
The Americas select will meet Trinidad and Tobago from August 1-3, Barbados from August 5-7 and Leeward Islanda from August 9-11 during a round robin competition to determine regional superiority.
All matches will be three-day contests with the Americas side competing in one of two groups each comprising four teams.
The top two teams after the round robin phase will advance to the semi-finals from August 13-15.
Bermuda Cricket Board of Control president Reggie Pearman said: "The ability of the BCBC to send three of our promising under-19 players to participate in this tournament is particularly gratifying.
"Not only will the players get exposed to talented, competitive cricket, they will have an opportunity to develop themselves in the three-day format of the game.
"It is another benefit of Bermuda's participation in the Cricket Council of the Americas (CCAM) and the continuing work of the ICC Regional Development manager Robert Weekes.
"The strategy of the Board is geared highly to the continued development of the youth cricketers, not only at the elite level but for all participants through the summer clinics and Under-13 and Under-15 league programmes."
Pearman said he was also pleased that Bermuda would again be represented during next week's Americas Regional Under-15 Championship in Florida.
"We are pleased to continue to be able to offer the young players international opportunities to broaden their experiences," he added.
"For the last two years the Under-15 side have enjoyed reciprocal tours with the Cayman Islands due to the support of the Bank of Bermuda.
"So this tournament which hosts all the associate members in our region represents a further development of their talents."
Accompanying the Under-15 team will be national coach Mark Harper, tour manager Grant Smith and Under-15 coach George Cannonier.
Bermuda will play five matches in six days during the round robin tournament with Monday, July 29 designated as a rest day. All matches are 40-over contests.
