Tourney sponsors pull out
Saturday's Heineken Open finals were the last after 21 years.
The sponsorship deal with Heineken and Burrows Lightbourn came to the end at the weekend with Andy Bray and James Collieson providing a quality showpiece finale for the popular event.
"It is regrettable that one of the longest corporate partnerships in domestic sport has come to an end," said new Bermuda Lawn Tennis Association president Ross Hillen, who also gave a summary of his first 100 days of presidency during Saturday's prizegiving.
"The Heineken Open has seen most of the Island's top players compete and has always been one of our most popular tournaments."
The assembled crowd, the majority of whom were sipping on the complimentary Heineken available, were told that the BLTA were confident of finding a replacement sponsor for next year.
Over the years Michael Way won the singles nine times, Ricky Mallory three times with Andy Bray, Saturday's winner, taking two of the last three crowns. Gill Butterfield and Donna Bradshaw won the ladies' title five times each.
