Town, Trojans in opening round clash

Last year's beaten finalists, Dandy Town, will face perennial cup giants Somerset Trojans in next month's preliminary round of the 2006-07 FA Cup competition.

Hornets and Trojans were paired together during yesterday's draw which took place at the Captain's Lounge on Reid Street, Hamilton.

Paget Lions were one of three clubs to receive a bye ? but the remaining Premier Division clubs all managed to avoid each other in the preliminary round which will be held on November 12 and 19.

Boulevard, cup holders North Village, St.David's and Devonshire Cougars were pitted against Commercial outfits Tuff Dogs, Lobster Pot, MR Onions and Island XI respectively.

Nine-time FA Cup champions PHC Zebras will lock horns with First Division Social Club who will be looking to turn back the clock and spring another upset over their more illustrious opponents.

Remaining cup ties see First Division Ireland Rangers, Devonshire Colts and Prospect United taking on Commercial sides Robin Hood, BAA and Pest Control, while X Roads were drawn against Wolves and Valley FC against Vasco.

First Division St.George's Colts and Commercial side St.George's All Stars have been paired against each other in an all East End derby, while Somerset Eagles will take on Hamilton Parish.

Southampton Rangers and Key West Rangers were the other two clubs receiving preliminary round byes.

Bermuda Football Association also held the draw yesterday for the 2006-07 Friendship Trophy and Shield Competitions which swing into action on December 17.

And once again Dandy Town emerged with one of the toughest matches.

Hornets will take on Devonshire Cougars while Paget will tackle St.David's Warriors.

Cup holders North Village will rest their title on the line against Boulevard while two of the competition's most successful clubs, Somerset Trojans and PHC Zebras, will also face off against each other.

In the First Division Shield competition, X Roads will take on St.George's Colts and Wolves will meet Hamilton Parish in the first round.

The eventual winner of the Wolves/Parish match will take on Southampton Rangers in the quarter-finals, while the winner of the X Roads/St.George's clash will meet Somerset Eagles.

Prospect United will do battle against Ireland Rangers while Social Club have been drawn against Devonshire Colts.
