Town?s Boyles could land in hot water

Dandy Town coach Devarr Boyles could face disciplinary action for publicly criticising the standard of local refereeing following Hornet?s controversial 2-1 loss to North Village last Sunday at Bernard Park.

The former Town and Bermuda international midfielder claims referee Lyndon Raynor contradicted himself in allowing Village?s disputed goals to stand.

Boyles maintains Village?s 59th minute equaliser ? an Ottis Steede own goal ? should have been flagged for offside while Damon Edwards? game-winning header resulted from a corner kick that should never have been awarded in the first place.

In the wake of the closely-contested Premier Division clash, Boyles argued: ?It was definitely a mistake by the officials. Players and coaches prepare themselves during the week and sometimes you have to wonder if the officials are doing the same.

?Yes they are going to make some calls that are not going to go in your favour and the 50-50 ones we accept. But the ones where the percentage is 90-10 . . . you can?t keep getting those ones wrong.?now understands Boyles? comments did not go down well with Bermuda Football Association (BFA) officials who could dish out disciplinary measures against the Whitney Institute teacher.

?In the spirit of the game we try to respect the decisions that are made by referees in terms of their control over football matches. We do understand coaches, players, spectators and administrators have opinions which makes football such a wonderful game,? stated BFA general secretary David Sabir yesterday.

?However, we discourage and do not take kindly upon comments that are disrespectful that attack the integrity of anyone who is involved in football be it toward a referee, an official of the BFA or another member club. Certainly when these things come to light the BFA is duty bound to protect the values of football at all costs.?

According to Sabir, BFA executives will determine whether or not Boyles? comments which appeared in Tuesday?s edition of did in fact bring the game into disrepute. If Boyles? comments are deemed to have brought the game into disrepute, then the matter will be handed over to the association?s disciplinary committee to decide what course of action, if any, to take.

Only last year then Boulevard coach John Rebello received probation for speaking out over Blazers? FA Cup loss to Village at BAA Field.
