A young Bermudian footballer has been gaining invaluable experience across Europe in recent weeks.

Travis Trott distinguished himself as a member of International Soccer USA's European tour in which, at 10-years old, he was the youngest player on the under-13 boys' team.

International Soccer USA is a soccer club in Texas, USA, which is run by former Manchester United player Clive Griffith. It selects players based on skill level and participates in European tournaments during summer. Trott applied to the club and successfully took part in their trials in February. He was chosen for last month's tour of Europe.

The first stop was England where they trained for four days before travelling to Gothenburg, Sweden, for the 2002 Gothia Cup. More than 1,200 teams from 60 countries competed in this tournament.

Trott's team advanced from the group stage following the Bermudian's decisive goal in a 3-2 victory over IFK Hassleholm. However, the International Soccer USA side lost in the semi-final to Eintracht Wangerland on penalties.

Trott and company were then among 400 teams in the Manchester Umbro International Football Festival in England. They played well and reached the Sporting Plate Division final. Again, the Bermudian featured as he got an assist, crossing the ball from the right wing to the centre forward who scored.

The full-time result was 3-3 but Trott's team were again on the unfavourable end of penalty kicks, this time against Stone Town Diamond.

Trott was accompanied by several relatives on the July 6-31 trip. The Warwick resident will represent Western Rovers in the upcoming local season. He played for Dandy Town Hornets under-11 team last season.
