Triathlete Richardson named All-American
Just as Bermuda national team triathlete Kent Richardson puts his involvement in the sport on the back burner to concentrate on cycling, he gets a surprise in the post.
For after competing in Boston this weekend as part of a strong contingent of Island cyclists, the 44-year-old returned home to find a letter on his doormat informing him he had been named an All-American.
To attain the prestigious status a triathlete must rank in the top five percent of his or her age group.
Richardson had a fine season last year, the highlight of which was winning the Masters division at the St. Anthony's Triathlon in Florida. As a result of this and other results he finished the season ranked 58th overall in the Male 40 category, amassing 89.2969 points in the process.
"I'm over the moon," he said yesterday.
"I'm focusing on cycling this year but my intention is still to hit the worlds at the end of the year in December," added the athlete who will represent Bermuda on the bike at the Island Games in June.
