Troake leads Ravens goal feast
A scoring blitz was unleashed by Ravens? A team against Swifts on Saturday.
The defending league champions cracked an impressive 11 goals against the young Saltus squad.
Megan Troake led Ravens in their relentless attack with four goals ? three in open play and one on a short corner ? the first within four minutes of play.
Her drive must have inspired team-mate Emily Black who slammed three open play goals ? all late in the second half ? to nab her first hat-trick of the year.
Team-mates Sharmini Thatheram and Emma Simmons each added two goals to complete the Ravens? tally.
On the defensive almost the entire match, Swifts only managed to earn one short corner but couldn?t capitalise on the opportunity.
However, Kaitlyn Miller stepped up with a dignity-saving goal in the 48th minute to deny Swallows a shut-out.
Ravens? B squad also picked up three points with a 6-2 win in their match against Swifts.
Liz Gardner opened the scoring for Ravens in the first two minutes of play and team-mate Anna Heard ? on her way to a hat-trick ? added two more within the next 15 minutes.
But Swifts fought to stay in the match and Keishae Robinson found her scoring touch before the end of the first half.
Ravens soon regained control in the second half, however, as Heard added her third goal and Gardner her second.
Kaitlyn Miller put her stamp on a open play goal as Swifts continued to fight but a Louisa Freisenbruch strike in the dying minutes of play sealed the 6-2 result.
Having also picked up an easy three points thanks to Cardinals, who forfeited their Sunday match, Ravens have a solid lead in the B league table with 21 points.
With 16 points, Swallows continue to chase, however, having picked up three points with a 2-0 win over Wildcats on Saturday.
Juliet McComb and Angelika Wilson each scored a goal in Swallows? victory.
In other B play, Liz Wright found the scoring touch for Bluebirds in their 1-0 win over Canaries.
The women?s league will now break for Christmas and New Year, resuming on January 13. The men?s league will not see action again until January 21.
