Trojans lose their way in meaningless encounter

After starting the season on a low with a miserable 1-0 away defeat to neighbours Somerset Eagles, Somerset Trojans yesterday ended the season in similar fashion with this sad, uninspiring home performance in a game that had no real significance as far as promotion or relegation were concerned.

But one had to feel sorry for Trojans coach Dennis Brown, whose team made the score look creditable when skipper Karl Roberts hit their third goal right at the end, as he sat dejectedly on the bench with his side trailing by two goals at the time and victory looking unlikely with 15 minutes left.

Brown could do little as Boulevard were allowed to come from behind twice and finish rather comprehensive winners.

What added salt to the home team?s wounds was that the visitors faced a dilemma after arriving to discover that three starters had not shown up for the contest while team manager Amon Brown had to make himself available as one of the substitutes. Fortunately he didn?t have to play.

There was early glee in the Trojans camp when skipper Roberts hit home a penalty after young centre back Conneko Trott fouled Rohaan Simons with the game just 35 seconds old.

However the Trojans were to have some misfortune as both Simons and Stephen Astwood followed up the opener with chances going just wide of the post ? Astwood guilty of one blatant miss.

Boulevard then fought back and Ray Burgess put the finishing touches to a Michael Parsons cross after 23 minutes.

Simons re-established the Trojans? one-goal lead three minutes from the interval after finishing off a long ball out of his defence.

Boulevard drew level after 46 minutes when Michael Pace headed home a cross from Robert Wilson.

The Trojans should have drawn blood two minutes later but Astwood?s scoring agony continued when he missed a sitter from ten yards.

Further frustration set in for the Trojans afterwards when a mix-up in defence allowed Dennis Russell to put Boulevard ahead 3-2 after 58 minutes.

Boulevard took over and had chances by Marvin Belboda and Wilson go just wide of the post, but the inevitable fourth goal came after 67 minutes when goalkeeper Reid Jones fouled Pace and Parsons scored his spot kick.

With the visitors seemingly coasting to victory, Roberts came through to score a soft goal at the end ? but by then it didn?t matter.
