Trott to coach Cup Match challengers

Former Devonshire Recreation Club, Somerset Cup Match and Bermuda ICC Trophy fast bowler Winston (Coe) Trott has been appointed assistant coach of Cup Match challengers Somerset.

Trott, who represented Somerset in the classic from 1968 to 1983, claimed a total of 36 wickets at an average of 22.39 per wicket.

During the 1979 ICC Trophy in England, Trott returned a personal best three wickets for eight runs off 12 overs, including six maidens representing Bermuda against East Africa, and to date remains the only local bowler to have taken at least one wicket in every ICC Trophy tournament game in which he has played.

With the onus on challengers Somerset to bowl St.George?s out twice in two days, Trott?s arrival could not have come at a better time, according to Somerset chairman of selectors Mark Trott.

?I think Trott?s appointment was a splendid idea because I was very fortunate to have played a year or two with him at Devonshire Rec and some of the things that he taught me were like first class,? said Trott.

?Even though at the time I was considered a senior player he still taught me a few things that helped to really enhance my bowling. His knowledge of the game is second to none and his enthusiasm and commitment rubs off on the players.

?He is a person who learned the game well and now he is able to transfer that knowledge to others. Coe is certainly a big asset to the team and I think people value his experience. He adds another dimension and he is definitely a great addition.

?He is straight up and honest and he makes you think about what you are trying to achieve.?

Trott will now assist former Somerset Cup Match and Bermuda ICC Trophy team-mate Winston Reid.

?I have always had a lot of respect for the man . . . he knows his stuff and he?s a man who can get people to do what he wants,? Reid said.

?If I didn?t think so I would have never tried to obtain his services. I think ex Cup Match players still have a part to play. Nobody can do everything by themselves and we do have some good guys still around who can contribute to the game.?

Meanwhile, St.George?s yesterday announced that Ritchie Foggo had been appointed chairman of selectors.

Foggo officially replaces Lewis Foggo who stood down earlier this year.

St.George?s? full Cup Match selection committee is as follows: Ritchie Foggo (chairman), DeWilton Gibbons, Ricky Hodsoll, George Cannonier and Cup Match skipper (to be later named).
