Tunisia, Angola win in African Cup of Nations

LONDON (Bloomberg) — Tunisia defeated South Africa 3-1 in soccer's Africa Cup of Nations yesterday to move to the top of the Group D standings.

Angola scored a surprise 3-1 win over Senegal in the other Group D match in Tamale, Ghana. Tunisia, leading with more goals scored, and Angola have four points.

Striker Francileudo dos Santos scored twice for Tunisia, after 8 minutes and 34 minutes. Chaouki Ben Saada had the other tally for Tunisia. Steven Pienaar scored the lone goal for South Africa.

Abdoulaye Faye opened the scoring for Senegal, after 20 minutes before Angola hit back with goals by Manucho in the 50th and 67th minutes and a third by Flavio Amado 12 minutes from the end.

Manucho is poised to join Manchester United in England's Premier League when he gets a work permit.

Senegal was runner-up in 2002, while this was only Angola's second win in four tournaments.

Sixteen nations are taking part in the biennial tournament, with the first two in each of the four groups advancing to the quarter-finals.
