Ureta out to defend title

The 2002 Colonial Tennis Tournament gets underway tomorrow at the Pomander Gate tennis courts.Over 203 participants have entered into this year's tournament where number one seed Ben Ureta returns to defend his Men's A division title.2001 Colonial Open Finalists and this year's local Federation Cup representative Jensen Bascome is seeded second with 2001 Heineken Open finalists John Johnston seeded third.

Over 203 participants have entered into this year's tournament where number one seed Ben Ureta returns to defend his Men's A division title.

2001 Colonial Open Finalists and this year's local Federation Cup representative Jensen Bascome is seeded second with 2001 Heineken Open finalists John Johnston seeded third.

Deborah Cheng is the top seed in the Women's A division, however, she can expect a tough time against Federation Cup players Zara DeSilva, second seed, third seed Danielle Paynter and fourth seed Ashley Brooks.

Last year's women's champion Donna Bradshaw will not be back to defend her title. David Furbert is the number one seed in the Men's B division, while reigning Heineken Open champion Zina Edwards tops the Women's B bracket.

Mark Cordeiro and Stuart Smith top the Men's A Doubles with Deborah Cheng and Wendy Gelhay leading the charge for the Women's A division.

Kenneth Pearman and Darion Thomas are the top seeds in the Men's B division while Tracey Berrell and Carol Reid top the Women's B category.

In mixed doubles DeSilva and Ureta are set to defend their title and have again been chosen as the top seeds while Ricky Mallory returns to the court to pair up with Laverne Stowe.

The tournament gets underway at 10 a.m. at the Harbour Road tennis courts.
