US soccer scouts to attend All-Star games

Kicking and duckin' it: Rai Simons, BSSF All Star soccer player, Alan Brooks, COO, HWP and Naimah Frith, BSSF All Star netball player play a bit of ball as HWP again donates funds for the BSSF.

International football scouts will visit Bermuda to take a look at local talent during the Bermuda School Sports Federation All-Star weekend.

Coaches from Presbyterian College and Furman University, both in South Carolina, will be jetting in for the games later this month.

The matches will be played at the National Sports Centre on Friday, January 26, and pit the best players from the western schools against the best from the east at primary, middle and senior school levels.

Last year one player in the All-Star games was offered a scholarship at a Division One school in Florida.

On January 27, the All-Star netball games will take place, also involving pupils from primary, middle and senior school.

HWP have donated more than $6,000 so that 250 students and 25 coaches can participate in the event.

Emmanuel Faria, BSSF administrator, said the group aimed to encourage the youth of Bermuda to get involved in sports.

?Participation in sports affords our youth the opportunity to develop qualities of discipline, leadership, and teamwork in a positive, encouraging environment,? he said.

Alan Brooks of HWP said the company believed in the spirit of the All-Star games: ?In supporting this important organisation, we are continuing to make an investment in Bermuda?s youth.

?HWP has always embodied the values of teamwork and shared responsibility, in common with BSSF,? he said.
