US young gun joins Open field
One of US tennis stars of the future is scheduled to make his XL Capital Bermuda Open bow next week.
Tournament director Alec Anderson revealed yesterday that he had given one of four wild card entries to 19-year Floridian Robby Ginepri.
The right-hander turned pro last year and is 123rd in the current ATP Champions Race.
His best performance to date was at the Waikoloa Challenger event in Hawaii in January when he reached the semi-finals before falling to Martin Verkerk of the Netherlands.
Along the way he defeated Justin Bower, Ricardo Mello and Paul Goldstein.
"He is an up and coming American player who has a lot of promise and they are expecting some strong results out of him," said Anderson. "He is a potential future star player."
Goldstein, meanwhile, has been allocated one of the other wild cards.
"Paul has had some success and is a good match player. He won the doubles last year so he will have a little bit of a following in Bermuda hopefully," Anderson said.
