Veteran Charlie stuns Stars with quickfire century
Southampton Rangers 183
St. David?s 151
With several players on tour with the Bermuda national squad, including skipper Janeiro Tucker, and veteran opener and vice-captain Keith Wainwright also abroad, champions Southampton Rangers were still able to coast to victory yesterday over a team supposed to be one of their fiercest challengers this season.
With veteran Olin Jones deputising as skipper, the visitors scored a 32-run victory with Jones and his son Malachi leading the way with both bat and ball.
As Southampton floundered at 14 for the loss of two wickets, the Jones family joined at the wicket and stole the show, adding stability with a third-wicket stand of 86 before Malachi departed after top scoring with 45.
Although the Olin followed six runs later with the score now 106 for four, the champions were still able to reach a respectable total as veteran Stevie Lightbourne contributed 36 and Anthony Raynor chipped in with 12.
Mackie Crane was the pick of the home side?s bowlers with three wickets for 13 runs off six overs while Delyone Borden claimed three for 29 off 10 overs, and Del Hollis two for 44 off 10 overs.
After openers Sammy Robinson (25) and Borden (18) got St. David?s off to a fair start with an opening stand of 37 they were to soon struggle once Borden departed, losing their first four wickets for 68.
Chris Foggo (13) and skipper Arthur Pitcher (44 not out) steadied the ship with a fifth-wicket partnership of 43 but once that ended with Foggo out lbw to the Rangers skipper it wasn?t long before the home side succumbed.
Malachi Jones returned the best bowling figures for Rangers, taking three for 38 off 10 overs with two maidens while Ryan Belboda claimed three for 46 off 10 overs. Olin Jones finished with two for 20 off 10 overs with three maidens.
