Veteran Sammy slams four in Zebras romp
Devonshire Colts 1 Key West Rangers 0
Premier Division Devonshire Colts were forced to sweat it out against their Commercial League opponents in this first round tie at White Hill Field yesterday.
Just when it seemed as if Rangers might extend their opponents into extra-time, forward Miguel Cabral came through with the goal to clinch it.
The hard-working Cabral netted from a right-wing cross in the 60th minute ? a goal that ultimately knocked the stuffing out of Rangers.
After falling behind, they brought on player-coach Ricky Mallory to add much-needed thrust in their attack, but with the entire team now clearly a step slower than the younger Colts there was no hope for a Rangers fightback.
Mallory, however, must have been proud of his warriors who matched Colts for the majority of the first half which saw both teams coming within a whisker of scoring.
Damien Mendoza hit the bar for Colts and also watched in agony as Andre Hendrickson in the Rangers? goal pushed another effort away.
Rangers? close calls came when a Janeiro Tucker chip from 20 yards bounced off the bar and then the same player was amazed to see Kevin Bean in the Colts? goal dive to his left to palm away a fierce shot.
First Division Southampton Rangers stormed through to the next round of the FA Cup after making light work of Prospect/Fire at the Oval.
Herbie Dillas, Sean Perinchief, Omari Hart, Jermaine Dill and two additional strikes from the boot of K.Symonds were more than enough to see Rangers safely through.
Yesterday?s scheduled cup tie between Warwick and Hamilton Parish was forfeited by Warwick who announced on Friday they were unable to field a team.
