Village keep their noses in front
North Village kept their noses in front of the pack in the Commercial A Divison with a 3-1 away win against struggling Lobster Pot.
A Stephen Coddington strike and two from Kevin Jennings left Village ahead of Dandy Town Roots on goal difference while veteran Colin James got Pot?s consolation.
Dandy Town Roots were pressed all the way by a lively PHC side but eventually came out on top 5-4. Sheridan Ming grabbed a hat-trick after Neil Clements had started the ball rolling for Raiders but a Mike Wells brace and goals from Mark Trott and Darron Simons settled Roots who clinched it with a 70th-minute Lorenzo Simmons strike.
Key West Rangers are third after beating lowly Island XI 2-0. An own-goal by Phil Rego in the 12th minute set Rangers on their way while Sergio Griffin sealed the win.
MR Onions crushed Tuff Dogs 6-0 in a bad tempered encounter in St. David?s which saw two of Dogs players dismissed. Only the heroics of the Dogs ?keeper and poor finishing prevented twice as many goals. Matt Ashfold opened the scoring by finishing off Rael Coen?s flick-on from a corner. Colin Keane extended the lead just before half-time when he picked up a clearance in his own half and raced past three lunging defenders before slotting the ball past the keeper.
Tuff Dogs started the second half brightly but were soon 3-0 down when Keane scored again. Eoghan O?Dwyer completed the scoring by helping himself to a late hat-trick including a superb volley from a corner. Dogs? misery was compounded by the dismissals of Chris Sousa and Ryan Gaglio for foul language.
BAA recorded their first victory of 2007 in a closely fought contest against Robin Hood.
Hood began well but as the first half wore on BAA gained the upper hand and opened the scoring when Jan Kahn shot home from 25 yards with a sweetly-struck half-volley when Hood failed to clear a free kick.
Against the run of play Hood equalised on the stroke of half-time.
The second half saw Dave Gibbs put BAA back in front when he finished off some great approach play from Martin Jones and Jim Campbell. However, just as it seemed BAA would build on their lead, goal-scorer Gibbs was sent off with 35 minutes remaining. Hood owned the ball for the remainder of the match but some stout defending from BAA kept them at bay.
Division B leaders St. George?s All-Stars edged Devonshire Colts 4-3 in a close contest at Police Field. All-Stars surged into a comfortable 2-0 first half lead thanks to two excellent goals. The first came as Cal Rayner threaded a pinpoint through ball to Charles Wade who coolly placed his shot wide of the keeper and into the corner of the net. The second goal was a screamer struck by Stevie Dickinson from just outside of the penalty box.
Devonshire picked up their game early in the second half and started to dominate proceedings, fighting back to level the score at 2-2.
St. George?s eased in front again with a goal from Carlos Greaves but that lead was short-lived when Devonshire were awarded a hotly-disputed penalty which they converted. The game could have gone either way as action continued end to end with both teams searching for a winner. In the final minutes Dickinson made a determined run down the right and was fouled as he surged into the box. He picked himself up and calmly scored the winner from the spot.
Valley picked up a vital win against promotion-chasing rivals Somerset Extros at Malabar. Troy Simons fired in two first-half goals while McDonald Simmons netted before the break against a sluggish Extros who scored through Everett Wellman.
Valley went further ahead through Fitzgerald Williams in the 60th minute but Extros then came storming back with Rodney (The Key) Bascome banging in two late goals. But Valley, who had Oscar Riley sent off for a second booking, held on.
Four goals from Ricardo Arruda clinched Vasco an easy victory against Pest Control. It was an even affair in the first half with Vasco leading 1-0 through a penalty converted by Arruda after he was tripped just inside the penalty box. Early in the second half, a breakaway goal from Ricardo made it 2-0 and Pest Control looked demoralised. The game became a little easier for Vasco at this point as Pest Control ran out of steam, two further goals from Ricardo clinching the win
Commercial C champions MR Onions Real Men conceded their unbeaten run on the last day of league action in the most embarrassing fashion ? going down to Prison Officers who played much of the first half with eight men and one woman. Dwight Richards put Prison Officers one up after 15 minutes while Roland Meadows blasted home from long-range to even things up. Richards barrelled through to grab his second early in the second half before Darren Choonucking levelled.
However, Onions defence had no answer for Richards? pace and power as he drove through to grab his hat-trick. Neither Wolves nor Dockyard Falcons were able to muster a side for the final day in the C division.
