What they said
Debbie Jones Hunter: “I would say it's the most humbling and the most exciting event of my career. I'm truly elated.
“I was surprised. You should never over-estimate yourself. I've always striven for the best and to be recognised by my country is the ultimate. I'm truly, truly happy.
Clarence (Tuppence) Parfitt: “This is the top. To get something like this from your own country . . . well, nothing beats it.
“This is a bit of a shock. I played the game for the fun of it, I enjoyed it and tried to put something back into the game for Bermuda, and to get this reward from your country just beats everything.”
Clyde Best: “You can't beat it. When your country recognises you, it's just the highest honour you can get.
“I can go to heaven now, I'm happy.”
Beverley Baldwin (daughter of Alma Champ Hunt): “I'm honoured, very, very, honoured. I only saw him play once, but of course we knew what a great player he was, he even used to play with us at home. But he wasn't just great in the community, he was a fabulous father. He taught us everything we knew, he always was there for us. He was an inspiration. This has been a very, very special night.”
Randy Horton: “I've had a lot of success, a lot of good things have happened to me, but nothing like this. To be voted by my peers, I've never felt as high as I felt tonight. I was standing and waiting to go on stage, I felt so light, I didn't even know whether I was going to make it to the stage.
“I thank more than anybody else the guys that I played with. When you play team sports, I don't care how good you are, you need all those guys around you. I played with some great players and maybe they should be up there getting this award.”
Calvin (Bummy) Symonds: “I'm feeling very emotional. I'm very proud of the honour that has been bestowed on me. I want to thank the the committee for inducting me.
“I've always been a proud Bermudian and my overseas experience helped me immensely, it's just too bad I couldn't get into the coaching side of sport because of family commitments. I wanted to see football and cricket players taught the right way, as I believe I was.
“Unfortunately those sports have gone down in the last 20 years. They just don't have the players these days, and the discipline just isn't there.”
