... while Streaker happy to take the points

North Village coach Dwayne (Streaker) Adams admits his team might have benefited from two disputed refereeing calls in their recent home win over Dandy Town at Bernard Park.

Earlier this week Town coach Devarr Boyles claimed that Ottis Steede?s own goal should have been flagged for offside while Damon Edwards? game-winning header resulted from a corner kick that should never have been awarded in the first place.

He further questioned why referee Lyndon Raynor overruled teenaged assistant Daniel Tucker in one instance but then completely ignored him on another.

When asked to give his side of the story, Adams replied: ?I can agree with what Boyles said . . . but those things unfortunately happen in the game and I don?t recall us ever complaining about Khano Smith?s handball.?

The Reds? coach was referring to a controversial goal scored by Smith ? now playing professionally with the New England Revolution in the US Major League Soccer (MLS) ? at Bernard Park in December last year that was allowed to stand though photos taken of the late incident captured the striker handling the ball under pressure from ?keeper Zane Hendrickson.

Smith was also present to spur his former Hornets team-mates on from the sideline during Sunday?s clash.

Adams continued: ?These things happen in football and are all part of the game. Look at Maradona for example, somebody lost that game too.?

And Village, Adams said, are not immune to ?unfavourable? calls.

?I recall earlier this season where we had a call go against us in the Martonmere Cup (group qualifying stage). Bean (Ralph Bean jr) was running at goal clearly by himself when he was tackled. However, the referee judged the tackle had been fair but Bean was injured on the play and was out for several weeks,? he added.

?But that?s the breaks, and I?m sure we will find ourselves in a similar position again as well as Dandy Town. You just have to learn to take things as they come. We might have benefited from two sort of disputed calls but we must also take credit for putting ourselves in position to capitalise.?

That aside, though, Adams is mostly pleased with his team?s first half of the season ? but warns the best has yet to come.

The Reds presently trail leaders Somerset Trojans by three points with six matches remaining in the 2005-06 league campaign.

Village have only lost once in league play, 2-0 against defending league champs Devonshire Cougars last October at the Den. Adams? squad have also conceded the least amount of goals (five) so far this campaign while banging in 20 ? the same amount as nearby rivals Cougars.

The Reds, who have struggled to field their strongest XI, were also denied what would have been an unprecedented ninth and third straight Martonmere Cup last October when they lost 3-1 to Trojans in the semis.

They have also endured their share on injuries with Jemeiko Jennings still sidelined through injury while Keishan Bean has just returned from brief studies in Cuba.

Kaiwon Dill, Keith and Daniel Jennings, Damon Edwards and Damon Wade are others having been sidelined through injury this season.

?There?s still a lot more I think this team can accomplish and we have been coming along in spurts,? Adams added.

?But we just have to stay committed to the plan.?
