Who?d dare steal from A King?
Sprinter Akila King?s preparations for her CAC Games campaign were disrupted yesterday after a thief stole her only pair of running spikes.
Having returned to her room in the athletes? village in Cartagena, Colombia, King put her spikes out on the windowsill of her ground-floor room ? only to discover a few hours later that they had been taken.
Luckily, assistant national athletics coach Devon Bean managed to rustle up a second pair ? borrowed from another athlete ? and she will take her place on the track this morning in the opening heats of the 200 metres.
Later tonight, Bermuda?s only other athlete competing in Colombia ? 800 metre runner Michael Donawa ? will compete in the only round of his competition.
Elsewhere, the national women?s hockey team endured their third straight CAC Games loss yesterday in the Dominican Republic, this time to Mexico 3-1.
Bermuda take on either Jamaica or Dominican Republic today in the Dominican Republic to determine who will come last.
