Wind can't blow riders off course

Fierce crosswinds and sporadic showers made riding a little risky at Coney Island yesterday, yet motocross riders managed to master the conditions.

After similar conditions on Boxing Day forced racing to be delayed, the Bermuda Motocross Association gave the riders, from both home and overseas, the green light.

Two visiting female riders were among those who had no problems with riding on the course, but the older of the pair, Sheena Patterson, had bike trouble and did not finish a single race on her 125cc Suzuki.

Jessye Davis, however, experienced no misfortunes on her 125cc Yamaha YZ and ended up being declared the winner of the women's section.

"The weather may have turned off the crowd but we weren't too concerned as much as we were on Boxing Day when we were forced to call off racing," BMA president Ashley Simmons said. "The riders made their own judgement about the windy side of the track, refraining from doing too much jumping in that area.

"After a while you could see the riders getting comfortable with all areas of the track and we were glad to see that there were no falls or any other mishaps on what was a fairly tough afternoon."
