Winners welcomed home at airport
Premier Alex Scott, proudly sporting a red, white and blue Bermuda national team cricket jersey, officially welcomed the Island?s victorious cricketers home at the airport yesterday afternoon.
Bermuda?s national team cricketers touched down from Canada shortly after noon somewhat exhausted from a night of celebrating a maiden Americas Championship.
Scott said: ?The measure of a real champion is not that you win all the time . . . it?s the ability to assess what you have done, and come through as you have done.
?From coach Logie (Gus Logie), captain, team and also the families that went over to support, I say job well done.
?You are no longer beating small teams, you are now beating teams like Canada and I just want to let you all know that what you are doing is well appreciated and I understand the hard work that went into this endeavour.
?It just didn?t happen. It took focus and dedication and as I?ve said in the past you have our support.?
Bermuda Cricket Board (BCB) president Reggie Pearman also welcomed the Island?s weary cricketers back, before announcing they will have the remainder of the week off from practice as reward.
?Make the best of it because we are going to knuckle right down again because we have a few other things coming up,? he said.
?But welcome back once again from another successful tour and let?s keep it up.?
Acting Sports Minister Walter Lister stated: ?I thank you for the contributions that were made. Bermuda was watching each and every move that you made and I think you?ve done Bermuda extremely proud,? he said.
?We appreciate the contributions you have made and also what your families have made so that you can go away and represent as well as you have.?
Newly appointed Director of Youth and Sport, Norbert Simons, added: ?The team did well and a good moral win for them. And in spite of the last few performances it shows this team has a lot of character and they need to be commended on that.?
