Women's teams take centre stage

Five women's collegiate soccer teams from the United States are set to compete against some of the Island's top ladies' teams over the next 13 days.

A team each from Elizabethtown College, Millersville University, John Carroll University, Tufts University and Williams College will all take centre stage, beginning this Saturday at the National Sports Centre.

PHC Zebras, Rude Girls, Royals, Robin Hood, Prospect and Dandy Stars will represent Bermuda during the nearly two- week tournament.

Elizabethtown College and PHC kick off the competition on Saturday at 6.30 p.m. while on Sunday Millersville University meet Rude Girls at the same venue.

The tournament, which is being hosted by the Department of Tourism, concludes on Friday, August 23.

Admission to the games is free.

"This is just an offshoot from the spring break competition," said Cleon Scotland, who is the Tourism Department's manager of sports and promotions. "We had a lot of women's soccer teams here earlier this year and for those who couldn't make it back then, we thought that this would be an ideal time to have them come here and compete against our girls."
